Vehicle maker Mobius Motors is set to shut down its business operations in Kenya after shareholders endorsed its liquidation. This decision marks the end of the company’s 13-year journey in the country.

Shareholder Decision and Liquidation

During a meeting held on August 5, 2024, it was resolved to place the company under liquidation in accordance with Section 393(1)(b) of the Insolvency Act. The shareholders also appointed KVSK Sastry as the liquidator to wind up the company’s affairs.

Creditor Meeting Announcement

Mobius Motors director Nicolas Guibert announced that a meeting of the creditors will be held on August 15, 2024, at 9 am at the Mobius Factory (Sammer Africa, Mombasa/Enterprise Road Junction, Nairobi). During this meeting, creditors will consider and, if deemed fit, pass a resolution approving the shareholders’ nominee as the liquidator of the company as per Section 408 of the Insolvency Act.

Inspection of Creditor List and Proxy Forms

Guibert added that the list of creditors and proxy forms will be made available for inspection, free of charge, on August 9, 2024. These documents will be accessible at the company’s offices at Mobius Motors office, Block C3, Sameer Business Park, Mombasa Road, Nairobi.

A 13-Year Journey Ends

Founded in 2011 by British businessman Joel Jackson, Mobius Motors aimed to build cars specifically for the African market. The first-generation Mobius II was launched in Kenya in 2015. The company’s shutdown will mark the end of its notable contributions to the automotive industry in the region.
