Jimi Wanjigi Freed from Custody: Businessman Released on KSh 10 Million Bond

Jimi Wanjigi, a prominent businessman, has been released from custody after being granted a personal bond of KSh 10 million.

Court Ruling

The decision was made by Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, who also directed Wanjigi to deposit his passport in court pending the ruling on whether to defer his plea taking. The magistrate set September 12 as the date for delivering her verdict.

Rights Violation Claimed

Wanjigi’s lawyers, led by Senior Counsel Paul Muite and Kalonzo Musyoka, had applied to have the plea taking deferred, citing alleged rights violations. They argued that a High Court order issued by Justice Bahati Mwamuye was ignored before Wanjigi’s arrest.

Proceedings Flawed

Muite told the court that the proceedings were already flawed based on the existing High Court order. The lawyers claimed that their client’s rights had been violated, and they sought to have his plea taking deferred until further notice.
