The United States Embassy in Nairobi has dismissed as fake letters claiming a travel ban on senior officials in Kenya’s Kwanza government.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Monday, December 2, the Embassy urged Kenyans to disregard the letters, clarifying that they did not originate from any U.S. agency.
The Embassy also advised the public to refrain from sharing the letters on social media platforms to prevent spreading misinformation.
The fabricated letters alleged that Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi and Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had been banned from entering the U.S. due to Kenya’s collaboration with the Adani Group on infrastructure improvements at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
“The U.S. Government, through the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Kenya, hereby restricts the individuals named Oscar Kipchumba Sudi and Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen from entering the United States of America,” read part of the forged documents.
Before the Embassy’s clarification, some Kenyans had already cast doubt on the letters’ authenticity, pointing out multiple spelling errors and questioning why such a significant announcement wasn’t made through official U.S. government channels.
