Kenya Met Predicts High Daytime Temperatures for Coastal, Northeastern, and Southeastern Regions

The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that several regions in the country will experience high daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C over the next seven days. This forecast, issued on Tuesday, January 21, highlights the potential for extreme heat across Coastal, Northeastern, Northwestern, and Southeastern lowlands regions.

Regions Affected by High Temperatures

The counties expected to face scorching conditions include:

  • Coastal Counties: Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal areas of Tana River.
  • Northeastern Counties: Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo.
  • Northwestern Counties: Turkana and Samburu.
  • Southeastern Lowlands: Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River.

Cool Nights in the Central Highlands and Rift Valley

While daytime temperatures are expected to soar, the weatherman noted that nighttime temperatures may drop below 10°C in some areas, including the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and Southeastern lowlands.

Weather Conditions Across Kenya

The forecast indicates that sunny and dry weather conditions will dominate most parts of the country during this period. However, occasional rainfall is expected toward the end of the forecast period in the following areas:

  • Highlands west and east of the Rift Valley
  • Nairobi
  • Lake Victoria Basin
  • South Rift Valley
  • Southeastern lowlands

Kenya Met noted that the previous forecast period saw predominantly sunny and dry conditions across much of the country. However, rainfall was recorded in areas such as the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and South Rift Valley.
