Kenya Airways Issues Fraud Alert on Fake Job Advertisement

National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) has cautioned the public about a fraudulent internal memo circulating on social media falsely announcing job openings.

Fake Memo Alert

In a statement on Tuesday, February 11, KQ clarified that the alleged job advertisement did not originate from the airline. The company emphasized that legitimate job openings are only posted on its official website and social media pages.

“Please be aware that the message circulating on social media regarding job openings at Kenya Airways is FAKE and did not come from us. For accurate hiring information, always refer to our official website and channels,” read the KQ statement.

False Job Claims

The fake memo, dated January 30, falsely claimed that Kenya Airways was hiring for positions such as:

  • Food service staff
  • Flight attendants
  • Receptionists
  • Booking clerks
  • Security officers

It further stated that applicants only needed a minimum qualification of “O” level with a grade of D+ or above—a claim dismissed by KQ.

Rising Job Scams in Kenya

Kenya has seen an increase in job scams, especially targeting major corporations such as KQ, due to the growing number of unemployed young people.

In November 2024, KQ flagged another fake job advertisement that falsely claimed there were vacant positions at the airline.

Public Advisory

Kenya Airways urges job seekers to be cautious and verify employment opportunities through official KQ platforms to avoid falling victim to fraud.
