Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has expressed reservations regarding the recent Benny Hinn crusade held in Nairobi over the weekend. The event, which occurred at Nyayo Stadium from Saturday, February 24, to Sunday, February 25, 2024, featured the preacher delivering spiritual teachings and prayers.
However, Kuria’s criticism focused on a more contentious aspect of the gathering, particularly Hinn’s approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. According to Kuria, “It is wrong to give an Israeli preacher an opportunity to give one-sided views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on National TV and in such a quasi State function.”
The Israeli-American preacher was invited through the office of First Lady Rachel Ruto, and the event was also attended by President William Ruto. Kuria’s statement raises concerns about the platform provided to Hinn, suggesting it might have been used to propagate a biased perspective on a highly sensitive issue.
Kuria emphasized Kenya’s stance of neutrality and peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He noted that Kenya calls for a cessation of hostilities while showing solidarity with Israel over the October 7th terror attacks. He reaffirmed Kenya’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, a key principle of the nation’s foreign policy.
In contrast, Rachel Ruto expressed appreciation and optimism for Kenya’s future, referencing a biblical promise of prosperity and dominion from Deuteronomy 15:6. She sees this scripture as a cornerstone of hope and faith for Kenya, promising a future of prosperity and self-reliance.
The First Lady emphasized that the crusade was not just a spiritual event but also a moment for national encouragement, reinforcing the belief in Kenya’s destined prosperity and self-reliance. She thanked Pastor Benny Hinn for bringing the message of healing and salvation to the nation.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a longstanding struggle over land, sovereignty, and rights, requires careful handling in public discussions to avoid exacerbating tensions or spreading misinformation.
