Nairobi – The Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, has decided to drop the case against Dennis Itumbi, the Chief Administrative Secretary for ICT, citing a lack of evidence. Itumbi had been accused of fabricating a letter that claimed there was a plot to assassinate the then Deputy President William Ruto.
During the court proceedings, the DPP informed the judge that there was insufficient evidence to support the charges against Itumbi and Samuel Gateri. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) deemed the case unconstitutional, as reported by Citizen TV.
Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, in acquitting Itumbi and Gateri, expressed her view that the entire prosecution process violated the constitution. Itumbi had faced three charges, including the creation and dissemination of forged documents, all of which he vehemently denied. Itumbi, who had fallen out with the former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, had accused certain government officials of organizing a clandestine meeting to plan Ruto’s assassination. He claimed that this alleged meeting took place at La Mada Hotel, located off Thika Road in Nairobi.
