EPRA Retains Fuel Prices for March-April 2025: Petrol at Ksh176.58 in Nairobi

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced that fuel prices will remain unchanged from March 15, 2025, to April 14, 2025.

In a statement released on Friday, March 14, EPRA confirmed that there would be no price adjustments, maintaining the rates set in the previous month.

“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene remain unchanged,” EPRA stated.

Taxation and Regulatory Compliance

EPRA clarified that these prices are inclusive of a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), in line with the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and excise duty adjustments for inflation under Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

The regulatory body emphasized that its Petroleum Pricing Regulations are designed to protect consumers from excessive price fluctuations while ensuring fair cost recovery for importers and distributors.

“The purpose of the Petroleum Pricing Regulations is to cap the retail prices of petroleum products already in the country so that importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered while ensuring reasonable prices to consumers,” EPRA stated.

Additionally, EPRA reassured the public of its commitment to fair competition and its role in protecting both consumers and investors in the energy and petroleum sectors.

What This Means for Consumers

With no price changes for the second consecutive month, motorists and households relying on petrol, diesel, and kerosene will not experience additional fuel-related expenses. However, fuel prices remain high due to taxation policies and global market factors affecting petroleum costs.

The next fuel price review will be on April 14, 2025, when EPRA will assess market conditions and determine whether adjustments are necessary.
