Gachagua Backs Ruto’s Decisions, Including Cabinet Secretary Selection

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed full support for President William Ruto’s decision to appoint new Cabinet Secretaries, including members from opposition parties. He emphasized his readiness to work with the nominees approved by Parliament, aligning with the formation of a broad-based government.

Gachagua dismissed any rumors of dissatisfaction with the new appointments, stating, “I have no objection to the new nominees and the formation of a broad-based government by the President. Let the new nominees come, and we will work together for the people of Kenya.” He reiterated his role as the Deputy President and principal assistant to the President, committed to supporting Ruto’s decisions.

Welcoming Opposition Members to the Cabinet

The Deputy President welcomed the inclusion of four nominees from the Orange Democratic Movement—Wycliffe Oparanya, Hassan Joho, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi—into the Cabinet. Speaking at a Catholic church in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, Gachagua highlighted the benefits of a broad-based government for implementing the President’s development plans. “We are content with his decision. Let the new nominees come, and we will work together for the people of Kenya,” he said.

Call for National Unity and Governance Participation

Addressing residents in Engineer town, Gachagua called for national unity and urged leaders to embrace one another. He encouraged Kenyans to actively participate in governance and decision-making processes to enhance accountability. “Voters and Kenyans, in general, should start questioning their leaders to hold them accountable for their decisions on public issues,” he remarked.

Focus on Development and Subsidized Fertilizer

Gachagua also spoke on the government’s development initiatives, particularly in the agricultural sector. He announced plans to increase access to subsidized fertilizers to boost food production, stating, “We will supply more fertilizer so that all farmers can benefit and concentrate on food production.” Additionally, he mentioned the ongoing construction of the Nyandarua Industrial Park, aimed at benefiting farmers and supporting the local economy.
