IEBC Refutes Allegations of Non-Existent Polling Centers in 2022 Election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has denied allegations that it listed non-existent schools as polling centers during the 2022 general election. A media report revealed discrepancies in schools listed by the Ministry of Education and those purportedly used as polling centers in Baringo county. Schools like Kaptiony Girls High School, Kasaka Mixed Secondary School, Kampi Ya Nyasi Secondary School, and Kasaka Primary School were flagged as “ghost institutions.” Allegations surfaced suggesting these schools were used as polling centers, supported by manipulated screenshots from the IEBC online portal.

However, the IEBC clarified that these polling stations did not exist in its directory. The electoral body labeled the claims as baseless and misleading, affirming that all polling stations can be accessed and verified on its website. They emphasized that the process of mapping polling stations involves input from stakeholders, including political parties and the public, and the 46,229 polling stations gazetted for the last general elections are publicly available information.
