Former Citizen TV news anchor Janet Mbugua has made a remarkable return to mainstream media, joining Nation Media Group (NMG). The announcement was made on Friday, January 24, by NMG’s Head of Broadcasting, Simaloi Dajom, who praised Mbugua’s exceptional talent and extensive experience in the media industry.
“I am thrilled to share that Janet Mbugua, a renowned media personality, has officially joined Nation Media Group. Janet is a highly skilled professional with an impressive track record of engaging audiences across TV, radio, and digital platforms,” Dajom stated.
Mbugua brings a wealth of expertise, having previously worked as a prime-time news anchor, show host, and content producer for leading media outlets in Kenya and South Africa. Beyond her professional credentials, she is a passionate advocate for women’s and girls’ empowerment, leveraging her platform to amplify voices for social change.
While Dajom did not specify Mbugua’s exact role within NMG, she expressed confidence in Mbugua’s ability to contribute meaningfully to the organization’s mission of delivering impactful, solution-driven content.
“Janet joins a dynamic team dedicated to creating compelling stories that resonate with our audiences across multimedia platforms. Please join me in giving her a warm welcome as she embarks on this exciting new chapter,” Dajom added.
This marks a significant comeback for Mbugua, who stepped away from mainstream media in April 2017 after a successful tenure at Citizen TV under the Royal Media Services banner. Her return to the industry follows the recent onboarding of Eric Latiff, another accomplished journalist, at NMG.
Mbugua’s new position underscores NMG’s commitment to assembling a team of top-tier talent to drive its vision of positively influencing society through quality journalism. As Mbugua settles into her role, she is expected to bring fresh perspectives and inspire impactful storytelling that aligns with her advocacy for inclusivity and social progress.
