Jomo Kenyatta Withdraws Legal Battle Against Ruto’s Government Over Firearm Dispute”

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s son, Jomo Kenyatta, has abandoned his legal battle against President William Ruto and the government, surprising many by withdrawing a case he had filed. The dispute centered around allegations that the government had conducted an unauthorized raid on Jomo’s premises, seeking to seize legally acquired firearms. Jomo accused the state of engaging in a witch-hunt against him. In a surprising turn of events, he withdrew the case after reaching an amicable resolution with the government. The state assured Jomo that his gun license would remain untouched, and the Firearms Licensing Board had no intentions of revoking his permit.

The withdrawal of the case was formalized in the High Court, where Judge Jairus Ngaah ruled that both parties had mutually agreed to settle the matter. The judge emphasized that if the issue resurfaces, it would be addressed in accordance with the Firearms Act. Jomo had initiated the legal action in July 2023 after a police attempt to raid his residence in Karen, alleging a violation of his constitutional rights and an illegal search. He maintained that he was a licensed gun holder and urged the Firearms Licensing Board and the Attorney General to halt any potential revocation until due process was followed.

In response to the attempted raid, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta condemned the government’s actions, accusing them of targeting his children in a strategy aimed at forcing his retirement. Uhuru urged the police to adhere to proper procedures if Jomo was found guilty, addressing the media after confronting law enforcement at his son’s premises. The surprising withdrawal of the case suggests a resolution between the parties, avoiding further legal escalation.
