Renowned news anchor Ken Mijungu has officially announced his departure from KTN News, a Standard Media Group-owned station, after an impactful four-year tenure. His announcement, shared via social media on Wednesday, February 5, reflected his gratitude for the journey and hinted at new ventures ahead.
“A good dancer knows when to exit the stage! Four years of absolute adrenaline and nothing but the best—as unpredictable as it was. It’s time to find something else to do while I still can. Forever grateful to God, my colleagues at Standard Group, and KTN News. Adios,” Mijungu wrote.
Ken Mijungu’s Career Journey: From Law to Journalism
Mijungu, a respected figure in Kenyan journalism, is known for his sharp reporting and engaging on-screen presence. However, his career path wasn’t conventional. He attended Maseno School (1998–2001) before earning a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Moi University.
After graduating in 2007, Mijungu initially worked as a cab driver before fate steered him into journalism. During the 2007/2008 post-election violence, he borrowed a camera from his brother and documented events in Kibera, catching the attention of K24 TV, where he landed his first reporting job.
Rising Through the Ranks in Media
Mijungu’s media career flourished as he took on roles at several prestigious organizations:
- K24 TV (2008–2012): Gained hands-on experience in news reporting.
- CCTV Africa (now CGTN) (2012): Joined as a reporter, covering key global and regional events.
- NTV Kenya (2013–2020): Served as a senior reporter and anchor, hosting Sidebar, an in-depth interview show featuring prominent figures.
- KTN News (2020–2024): Established himself as a leading journalist and news anchor.
Beyond journalism, Mijungu is also an entrepreneur with business interests in the transport and aviation sectors.
Shifts in Kenyan Media: Eric Latiff’s Move to NMG
Mijungu’s exit from KTN comes just a month after another prominent journalist, Eric Latiff, also left Standard Media Group. On January 6, Latiff shared a heartfelt farewell, expressing gratitude for his time at Spice FM and Standard Group.
“On this 6th day of January 2025, my heart is heavy as I bid kwaheri to the brilliant team of colleagues at Spice FM and Standard Group. I love the thrill of creating and starting new things, and I have been blessed to do just that.”
Following his departure, Latiff joined Nation Media Group (NMG), where he now co-hosts Fixing the Nation alongside Janet Mbugua and Mariam Bishar. According to NMG’s Head of Broadcasting, Simaloi Dajom, Latiff’s inclusion aligns with their strategy to innovate and enhance content offerings in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
“Having Latiff on board aligns perfectly with our strategy to continuously innovate and elevate our broadcast offerings and underscores our commitment to creating multimedia content that our customers love.”

While Mijungu has yet to reveal his next move, his departure signals another shift in Kenya’s media landscape. With his experience, credibility, and entrepreneurial mindset, he is expected to embark on exciting new ventures, whether within journalism or beyond.
As the industry evolves, seasoned journalists like Mijungu and Latiff continue to shape Kenya’s media landscape, adapting to new opportunities and setting trends for future broadcasters.
