A win against Uruguay on Sunday will send Kenya to the finals of the playoffs in London where the ultimate winner will join 11 top teams at the top tier World Rugby Sevens series.
The London 7s at Twickenham Stadium is Kenya’s do or die chance towards a core nation status for the 2024 World Rugby Sevens Series which has been trimmed down from 16 to 12 teams.
Uruguay and Canada, who alongside Shujaa, finished outside the top 11 safety net after France 7s in Toulouse and have to compete with Challenger series winners Tonga for the final slot in next season’s series.
It was not a rosy season for the Kenyan lads, who finished 13th overall on the series log and thus forced to Twickenham to battle for survival in the top tier.
Kenya had a good run-on Saturday beating Canada 24:19 and Tonga 38:26 and will await their result against Uruguay in their penultimate match to know their fate.
