Kenya Weather Forecast: Heavy Rainfall & Scorching Heat Expected in Key Regions

Kenya is set to experience continued rainfall and high temperatures across multiple regions in the coming week, according to the latest Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) forecast.

Heavy Rains & Temperature Fluctuations Expected

KMD warns of intense rainfall and fluctuating temperatures, with nighttime lows potentially dropping below 10°C in some areas.

Isolated heavy downpours are expected in:

  • Central Highlands (Nyeri, Meru, Embu)
  • Western Kenya & Lake Victoria Basin (Kisumu, Kisii, Siaya, Kakamega)
  • Rift Valley (Nakuru, Eldoret, Bomet, Narok)
  • Southeastern Lowlands & Coast (Mombasa, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui)
  • Parts of Northeastern & Northwestern Kenya

Meanwhile, areas in Coastal, Northeastern, and Northwestern Kenya will experience extreme heat, with daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C from Tuesday, March 25, to Monday, March 31.

Regional Weather Breakdown

Nairobi:

  • Temperatures: Moderate, between 20°C and 25°C
  • Rainfall: Heavy, between 50mm and 70mm

Nakuru & Eldoret:

  • Cool conditions, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 20°C

Kiambu, Machakos, Mwingi, Murang’a, Kirinyaga & Narok:

  • Significant rainfall expected, ranging between 70mm and 100mm

Bomet, Kisii, Siaya, Vihiga, Kakamega, Migori & Tharaka:

  • Heavy rainfall, exceeding 100mm

Kisumu & Coastal Regions:

  • Warm temperatures between 25°C and 30°C

Garissa, Mandera & Lamu:

  • Extreme heat, with highs above 35°C, extending the ongoing heatwave

Kitui, Machakos & Makueni:

  • Temperatures: Between 25°C and 30°C+

Turkana, Lodwar & Parts of Samburu:

  • Extreme heat, with highs above 35°C

Nyeri, Meru & Embu (Central Highlands):

  • Cool temperatures between 17°C and 25°C
  • Minimal rainfall expected over the next six days

With expected heavy rainfall, residents in flood-prone areas are advised to stay alert for possible flooding. Meanwhile, those in heatwave-affected regions should take precautions to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
