Kenyan Runner Kibiwott Kandie Suspended Amid Doping Investigation

Kenyan long-distance runner Kibiwott Kandie has been provisionally suspended, marking a major setback in his illustrious career. A silver medalist at the 2020 World Half-Marathon Championships, Kandie has claimed victories in high-profile races, including those in Prague, Istanbul, and Ras al Khaimah. However, his former half-marathon world record has since been eclipsed by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo, who set a blistering time of 56:42.

Beyond the half-marathon, Kandie has demonstrated exceptional versatility. He holds a remarkable 10km personal best of 26:50, achieved in 2022, and clocked an impressive 2:04:48 in the marathon in 2023. His contributions were also instrumental in securing Kenya’s gold medal at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst.

Kenya continues to face heightened scrutiny due to a rising number of doping cases among its elite runners. Kandie’s suspension remains provisional as investigations into the matter progress.
