The Kenya government has received 9,787 applications from foreigners for its new Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system, part of the country’s new visa-free travel policy. The eTA system allows foreign travelers to enter Kenya without obtaining a visa, with 4,046 applications already processed and 2,141 travelers approved. The first group of international travelers utilizing the visa-free policy arrived recently. The initiative aims to provide a faster and reliable service for travelers while addressing security concerns. However, there have been complaints about the process being tedious and costly, raising concerns that it might discourage tourists. To apply for eTA, applicants must submit various documents at least 72 hours before travel, including
- A valid passport
- Passport photographs
- Credit/debit card information for payment
- Travel details
- Contact information
- Proof of hotel booking or invitation letter
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate if applicable
It’s emphasized that approval is not guaranteed with the application and payment.
