Nairobi City County Launches Electronic Unified Business Permit for Streamlined Entrepreneurial Operations

Nairobi-Governor-Johnson-Sakaja

Nairobi City County residents and entrepreneurs will benefit from the implementation of the electronic Unified Business Permit (UBP) regime, part of a broader ease-of-doing business reform initiative. The UBP consolidates business, fire, food, health, and advertising licenses into a single permit, accessible through the Nairobi City County Government’s NairobiPay Revenue service online portal. This move, effective from January 1, 2024, eliminates the need for multiple licenses, streamlining the process for entrepreneurs. Governor Sakaja Johnson, fulfilling a commitment from his manifesto, emphasized that the UBP activation enhances public service delivery by enabling online license payments and issuance of electronic unified business permits. The electronic solution addresses revenue leakage risks associated with the issuance of multiple permits. Sakaja anticipates improved Own Source Revenues (OSR) performance for the county, aiming to collect Kshs 20 billion and fund city development projects. Additionally, the Governor extended the land rates waiver until January 31, 2024, with payments accepted through the NairobiPay Portal or *647#.
