Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has confirmed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will be a key contender in the upcoming 2027 General Elections, emphasizing the party’s deep-rooted commitment to ideology-driven politics and national development.
Speaking on Sunday, April 20, Kajwang stated that building and sustaining a political movement like ODM is no easy task, and the party remains firmly focused on capturing power through organized and policy-based engagement.
“One thing must be made clear: building a political movement of the stature and nature of ODM is no mean task. Therefore, ODM shall be on the ballot in 2027,” Kajwang said.
Politics Anchored on Ideology
Kajwang underlined the importance of political parties being driven by ideologies and policies, rather than personal ambition or regional interests.
“Political parties are formed so that people can compete on the basis of policies and ideologies. The person with the best ideology carries the day and implements them for the betterment of the people,” he added.
On Joining the Broad-Based Government
The senator also addressed ODM’s involvement in the broad-based government, a move that has drawn public interest and sparked political debate. Kajwang defended the decision as a strategic step to promote national unity and ensure inclusive development across all regions of Kenya.
“We are conscious that elections are still two years away, but the challenges this country faces require us all to work together. That is why we joined the broad-based government,” he explained.
He warned that allowing the Kenya Kwanza administration to govern unilaterally could have reinforced historical patterns of political exclusion.
“We realized that if Kenya Kwanza was allowed to run the government alone, the politics of exclusion would continue. Some parts of this country would be starved of development,” Kajwang said.
Gladys Wanga Echoes ODM’s 2027 Ambitions
Kajwang’s comments echo similar sentiments made by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who earlier expressed confidence in ODM’s momentum heading into the 2027 elections. Speaking in Rangwe on November 27, 2024, Wanga praised the party for conducting peaceful and structured grassroots elections — a foundational step in capturing national leadership.
“ODM is preparing to capture power in 2027 because the purpose of any political party is to capture power. For that, we must be organized and vibrant at the grassroots level,” Wanga stated.
She further lauded ODM as the only political outfit capable of carrying out democratic, constitutionally grounded internal elections.
“ODM is the only party able to carry out this kind of grassroots election. The Registrar of Political Parties even said ODM is the only party fully following the Constitution of Kenya,” she added.
Looking Ahead to 2027
With renewed energy and a clear ideological direction, ODM appears to be ramping up its organizational and political machinery ahead of the 2027 polls. As the party positions itself for a comeback, its leaders continue to stress unity, accountability, and visionary governance as the path forward.
