President Ruto Urges Parents to Enroll Children in Taifa Care.

President William Ruto has called on parents to ensure their children are registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA) when schools reopen in January 2025. Speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi, on Thursday, December 12, the President emphasized the importance of enrolling every Kenyan child in the newly launched health insurance program, Taifa Care.

“I urge all parents to accompany their children to school in January to facilitate their registration under Taifa Care,” President Ruto said. “This initiative ensures that every Kenyan child has access to comprehensive health insurance, enabling us to plan and address their healthcare needs effectively.”

President Ruto also encouraged all Kenyans to register with the SHA to enjoy their constitutional right to healthcare, highlighting that Taifa Care offers inclusive, universal, and transparent access to health services for all registered citizens.

“Taifa Care guarantees healthcare access without discrimination. Through this model, we have transitioned 5.6 million citizens from the National Health Insurance Fund and registered 11 million Kenyans under the Social Health Insurance Fund,” he noted.

The President elaborated on the program’s transformative impact, citing its success in determining accurate healthcare costs, allocating resources for facility upgrades, and leveraging digital technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.

“No public service initiative of this scale and ambition has ever been undertaken in our country’s history,” President Ruto declared, adding that Taifa Care represents a bold step toward ensuring equitable and high-quality healthcare for all Kenyans.

Parents are now urged to take an active role in this process by ensuring their children’s registration during the school reopening period, reinforcing the government’s commitment to achieving universal healthcare coverage.
