Two men accused of murdering British businessman Campbell Scott will remain in police custody for 21 days as detectives intensify their probe into the shocking crime.
Scott, a UK national, went missing in Nairobi before his decomposing body was discovered in a forest in Makueni in late February, raising serious concerns over his brutal killing.
Prime Suspects Arrested
On March 4, police arraigned Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albunus Mutinda Nzioki before Magistrate Lukas Onyina, linking them to Scott’s murder. Investigators suspect that Scott was lured to Kithuka’s residence in Pipeline, Nairobi, where he was allegedly killed.
The prosecution revealed that the suspects had attempted to withdraw money using Scott’s credit cards in multiple locations, including Nairobi, Voi, and Mombasa. Their suspicious activities and efforts to access Scott’s finances led to their arrest along the Nairobi-Mombasa Road on March 1.
Ongoing Investigation & Court Ruling
Further findings indicate that Kithuka vacated his residence shortly after Scott’s disappearance, raising red flags for authorities. Police have yet to recover Scott’s phone and credit cards, crucial pieces of evidence in the case.
Due to the severity of the crime, prosecutors argued against granting bail, emphasizing the risk that the suspects might flee.
Magistrate Onyina approved the prosecution’s request, stating, “The application meets the requirements of the Constitution. The two shall remain in police custody for 21 days as investigations continue.”
International Collaboration in the Murder Probe
Authorities in Kenya are working closely with UK investigators, as Scott had been based in Britain before traveling to Kenya on February 16 for a business meeting. He vanished just a day after his arrival, triggering an urgent search that ended in tragedy.
The case will be mentioned in court on March 21, 2025, as detectives work to uncover the full details of the crime and ensure justice for Scott.
