Evojo Primary School in Vihiga County has been closed indefinitely following a shocking discovery of dismembered human remains inside one of the school’s latrines.
The gruesome scene was discovered on the morning of Tuesday, May 6, shortly after students and teachers had arrived for early morning remedial lessons.
According to Deputy Headteacher Oscar Changilwa, the disturbing incident came to light when a pupil raised an alarm after using the school’s toilet facilities.
“We are saddened that such an act has occurred. We had just resumed school after burying our headteacher. A pupil came running, saying he saw a head in the toilet,” Changilwa told reporters.
Alarmed by the report, Changilwa and other staff rushed to the latrine to confirm the claim.
“All the teachers ran to the scene. When I poured water into the pit, I confirmed it was a human head. That’s when I immediately alerted the authorities — the Ministry of Education, Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), and the **Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” he added.
Police responded swiftly, cordoning off the area and launching an investigation. The latrines were subsequently demolished, and all pupils were sent home indefinitely.
The identity of the deceased and the circumstances under which the body parts ended up in the school remain unknown, as detectives work to piece together the chilling puzzle.
This incident comes just days after the school buried its headteacher, compounding grief and emotional trauma among the school community.
Authorities are urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
