Disregard Rumors: Malala Denies Resignation from UDA

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has refuted claims of his resignation from the party amidst ongoing disputes. In a statement posted on X, Malala dismissed the rumors as propaganda and urged supporters and UDA members to ignore the falsehoods. He confirmed that he remains the Secretary General of the party.

Commitment to Party Stability

Malala emphasized that the UDA is stable and committed to supporting President William Ruto’s efforts to fulfill the Kenya Kwanza manifesto. He assured party members that there is no division within the UDA, stating, “Ignore propaganda. The party is stable and focused on helping President @WilliamsRuto achieve his agenda for Kenya. Chama iko Imara.”

The Fake Resignation Letter

A letter dated Tuesday, July 30, 2024, falsely claimed that Malala had resigned from his position as Secretary General, citing party disputes and broader political challenges as reasons. The letter alleged that recent political alignments, including Raila Odinga’s association with the government, had led to instability and disillusionment. The letter also falsely asserted Malala’s commitment to democratic values and governance, suggesting he would continue advocating for these principles even after stepping down.

Internal Party Disputes

On the same day, some UDA members called for Malala’s removal as Secretary General. Led by Lawyer Joe Khalende, the group accused Malala of undermining the party’s progress and supporting the TAWE movement, which they claimed contradicts the party’s agenda. Khalende stated, “Malala is supporting the TAWE movement and agendas that contradict the ruling party. He has abdicated his role and duty as the SG of the ruling party and joined our opponents.”

Khalende also announced his intention to take over as Secretary General, alleging that Malala had opposed the formation of a broad-based government. “I, Joe Khalende, will be taking over as the SG of the UDA party. He has gone against our party leader and is at the forefront of opposing the formation of a broad-based government. I am here to confirm that he is no longer the SG of the UDA party,” Khalende declared.
