The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has released the latest fuel prices, set to take effect from midnight, January 15, 2025, to February 14, 2025. This adjustment reflects changes in global petroleum costs, taxation, and other economic factors.
Revised Fuel Prices
Under the updated structure, consumers will experience the following changes in fuel costs:
- Super Petrol: An increase of Ksh 0.29 per litre, bringing the price to Ksh 176.58 in Nairobi.
- Diesel: A rise of Ksh 2.00 per litre, now costing Ksh 167.06 in Nairobi.
- Kerosene: An increase of Ksh 3.00 per litre, priced at Ksh 151.39 in Nairobi.
The new prices include a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as mandated by the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024.
Analysis of Global Landed Costs
EPRA’s review of landed petroleum costs showed varying trends during the past month:
- Super Petrol: A slight decrease of 0.14%, from USD 612.53 per cubic metre in November 2024 to USD 611.69 in December 2024.
- Diesel: A marginal increase of 0.06%, rising from USD 643.69 to USD 644.10 per cubic metre.
- Kerosene: A significant decrease of 1.62%, dropping from USD 660.30 to USD 649.64 per cubic metre.
These fluctuations highlight the influence of global oil prices and exchange rate dynamics on local fuel pricing.
EPRA’s Regulatory Role
EPRA is tasked with overseeing Kenya’s energy sector, including electricity, petroleum (upstream and downstream), and renewable energy. Its key responsibilities include:
- Licensing and regulating energy sector players such as the Kenya Electricity Generating Company and the Kenya Pipeline Company.
- Conducting monthly reviews of fuel prices to ensure fair adjustments based on international and local market trends.
- Resolving disputes and ensuring compliance with energy policies.

- Super Petrol: Ksh 176.58 per litre
