Khalif Kairo, Kenyan Car Dealer and Influencer, Faces Fraud Charges in Court
Joseph Wambui, better known as Khalif Kairo, a prominent car dealer and social media influencer, appeared in court on Monday to face charges of fraudulent trade. The allegations center around claims that Kairo, through his company Kai & Kairo Limited, defrauded a client of over Sh2 million.

Court documents outline the specifics of the case. Kairo is accused of inducing Jeff Munane to pay Sh2,145,150 for the importation of a Honda Vezel Hybrid from Japan, which he allegedly failed to deliver. The incident reportedly occurred between July 10, 2024, and July 29, 2024, in Westlands, Nairobi County.
The magistrate presiding over the case stated, “You are charged with cheating contrary to Section 315 of the Penal Code.” This marks a significant legal challenge for Kairo, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Kairo’s Defiant Stand
Following his arrest on Saturday, Kairo took to social media to express his defiance, declaring his intention to face the charges head-on rather than settle the matter quietly. In his post, he said, “I declined to ‘negotiate’ a quick settlement as expected and instead insisted to be presented in court today.”
Kairo further alleged external interference in his business operations, claiming that influential clients and certain law enforcement officers have been working to undermine him. “Some well-connected clients have been using DCI officers to frustrate me, making it even more difficult for us to conduct business,” he wrote.

This is not the first time Kairo has faced public scrutiny. His rise to fame has been marred by accusations of failing to honor business agreements, resulting in numerous disputes with clients. One widely circulated video showed Kairo in a heated exchange with a disgruntled customer, during which he said, “You’re not going to harass me. You wait, I’ll sort things out.”
Despite the legal challenges, Kairo continues to portray himself as a victim of external pressures and economic hardships. “I am not a criminal but one of the many honest business owners in Kenya experiencing challenges due to tough economic times,” he stated.
