President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have officially signed a political pact aimed at tackling Kenya’s pressing social, economic, and political challenges. The agreement, sealed on Friday at KICC, outlines 10 priority areas that will guide their collaborative efforts moving forward.
Key Focus Areas of the Pact
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) emphasizes key national concerns, including:
- Implementation of the NADCO report
- Strengthening the rule of law
- Empowering and protecting young people’s livelihoods
- Enhancing leadership and integrity
- Managing Kenya’s national debt responsibly
Ruto’s Push for Debt Accountability
President Ruto reiterated his commitment to prudent financial management, vowing to reduce reliance on foreign debt and conduct a comprehensive audit of past loans.
“I attempted to set up this audit before, but it didn’t work. Now, with this broad-based partnership, we can finally account for our national debt,” Ruto affirmed.
Raila: Pact to Solve Kenya’s Economic & Governance Woes
Raila Odinga underscored the importance of the deal, stating that it will help combat unemployment, poverty, inequality, and inefficiencies caused by corruption.
However, he was quick to dismiss speculation about a political merger, clarifying:
“This MoU does not mean ODM and UDA are forming a coalition.”
With both leaders committing to national reforms, the spotlight is now on how this historic partnership will reshape Kenya’s political and economic landscape.
