Simba Arati selects a new Deputy Governor following Monda’s removal.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has nominated Elijah Obebo to assume the role of Deputy Governor, succeeding Robert Monda, who was removed from office.

The announcement of Obebo’s nomination was made by Kisii County Assembly Speaker Philip Nyanumba on Wednesday. Arati selected Obebo pending approval by the County Assembly.

Elijah Obebo previously held the position of chair of the public service board in the County.

Monda’s removal comes on the heels of his impeachment by the Senate, citing gross misconduct and corruption. The Kisii County Assembly had earlier approved his ousting.

The Senate found Monda, the former Nyaribari Chache MP, guilty of all charges brought against him.

In response, Monda has taken legal action to challenge his impeachment, alleging that it was orchestrated by Arati’s faction.

Despite receiving support from National Assembly Chief Whip and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, as well as Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka, Monda was unable to retain his position.
