Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has criticized Azimio leader Raila Odinga for his comments claiming that he rescued the Kenya Kwanza government from imminent collapse.
Criticism of Raila’s Statement
Wamalwa expressed disapproval of Raila’s statement, arguing that instead of helping Kenyans by opposing the Ruto administration, Raila was boasting about rescuing the regime. Wamalwa questioned the Azimio coalition’s ability to continue oversight of a government they are assisting.
Questioning the Opposition’s Role
“Instead of rescuing Kenya from the Ruto Regime, we rescue Ruto’s Regime and boast about it? How does Azimio then continue opposing a government that it is assisting?” Wamalwa posed on X. He described such an association as untenable and likened it to “running with the hare and hunting with the hounds.”
Raila’s Visit to Toi Market
Raila Odinga visited traders at Toi Market in Nairobi, where a fire had destroyed property and killed at least four people. During his visit, Raila claimed that President William Ruto had reached out for assistance after his Cabinet failed, leading to protests from Generation Z.
Raila’s Assurance of Change
“They had failed, dissolved the Cabinet, and came to us to give the people. They came begging, ‘please give us your people who know how to work,'” Raila said. He assured Toi residents that the experts provided by Azimio to work with Ruto at the Cabinet level would bring about change, stating, “We have given them experts, you will see change.”
Inclusion of ODM Members in the Cabinet
In the reconstitution of the Cabinet, President Ruto included five members from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party. These members include former deputy party leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, who were nominated to the Mining and Cooperatives ministries, respectively. National Assembly minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, party chairman John Mbadi, and Beatrice Askul were also nominated to the Energy, National Treasury, and East African Community ministries, respectively.
Vetting and Confirmation
Joho, Oparanya, Wandayi, and Mbadi have already been vetted and are awaiting confirmation. Askul is scheduled to be vetted on Friday, August 9, 2024.
